The Aspiring Domestic Goddess is all about me and my aspirations (I am hardly a Goddess but would love to be!) and all I have learnt throughout my life and my love of cooking and some extra hints and tips that I have picked up over the (many) years of bringing up a family and running a busy household.

Times have not always been affluent and I have managed to adapt and survive and managed to feed the family even when the fridge and store cupboard only had a chorizo sausage that was still in date, but had been hanging around for a while after purchased on a whim, along with 1 red onion, 1 red pepper, 1 oxo cube, 1/2 bottle of red wine, a handful of potatoes and half a pack of sausages (check out my recipe for Spanish Sausage Casserole) – it’s still a family favourite with a fresh French Stick sliced and dipped in the juices! and now my mouth is watering.

So let me introduce me, I am Suzanne (or Suz to almost everyone) and sometimes Suzi (not my most favourite abbreviation) that only my parents could get away with. I am rapidly approaching the big 50, have a distinct love of my red hair (most of the time – alot of grey during the lockdown lol) and have two children, one grown up now and 22 going on 23 and my 14 year old son (who loves baking bread – and pretty good at it too!). Feeding the family is interesting, with a fussy partner who is a meat and two veg type of man who is not keen on pasta or rice and not always keen to try new things!, a vegan daughter (who does not live with us but eats with us occasionally) and a son who would live on rice, couscous and noodles smothered in hot sauce (I kid you not!).

I have been baking and cooking all my life after my grandma taught me (along with sewing) at the age of 5, and loved both things ever since. I was a little mischievous as a teenager, so my parents sent me to finishing school (definitely showing my age now!). I spent a glorious 18 months at the Constance Spry and Murial Downs school ‘Winkfield Place’ leaving with a Cordon Bleu Diploma along with a Floristry & Flower Arranging Diploma and having been taught to be the perfect hostess for any potential husband that also included laundry classes (I still hate ironing shirts to this day!) and sewing classes which concluded with making my own graduation outfit, as well as the obligatory puffball dress that was the ultimate fashion statement for any young lady at the time going out to parties with potential suitors (which was far from the reality, but what went on at Winkfield stays at Winkfield).

Zoom forward some 30+ years (eeks time has gone far too fast!) and still using those skills to this day!

So thats me in a nutshell, and now I am sharing skills and knowledge with you all.

Enjoy!
